Choppershack is the sole creation of Phil Piper and his wife
Princess Sandi Piper, this website is designed to showcase some of the
bikes he has built over the years.

Riding motorcycles for over 40 years and building award winning
customs for over 30 years. Cutting his teeth on a variety of Japanese bikes whilst growing up and then progressing through various Triumphs, BSA's and Nortons Phil acquired his first Harley at the age of 22 which was a 1942 WLA 45 cu in chop. Unfortunately at that young age it was just too slow so it was sold to make way for more japanese and british engineed  choppers and lowriders until Phil acquired his first big twin twin several years later, a 1972 Harley FL. It was in a poor state of repair and fairly unreliable so Phil learned the ins and outs of Harley engines fairly quickly. Whilst most people progressed onto Evolution engineed customs in the early 90s and onwards Phil stayed faithful to his Shovelhead powered machines earning himself

the nickname 'Shovel Phil'.

Since that time Phil has built numerous show quality bikes and a number

of commissions many of which have been featured in magazines. A small

number of these can be seen on this website on the Bikes page.

Phil became known for his custom building and also engine

building and has built a number of hi-po Harley engines including a top

fuel iron head sportster dragster and a supercharged big bore twin cam!

In the 90s he was selected to be the subject of a documentary by

East Midlands television  about custom bike building and later in 2006

was featured as one of the contestants on The Great British Biker Build Off

(6 part series on Discovery Channel ) and the following year Bennetts

Biker Build Off which went out on Men & Motors channel.

Phils bikes have been featured internationally in a number of

magazines including Easyriders, The Horse, Back Street Heroes, Freeway,
Wild, 100% Biker, AWOL, Heavy Duty, Live to Ride, Supertwins and

American-V magazine to name but a few!

Whilst Phil has never professed to be the best or biggest custom

bike builder and certainly not the richest he is just happy to be able to

do what he loves and to be part of the worldwide custom bike scene

and also to be associated with the hot rod and tattoo cultures

which reflect his other interests.

Thank you to all the photographers and publications who've contributed the images to
this website, these include Garry Stuart, Simon Everett, Back Street Heroes magazine,

100% Biker magazine, Alan Carville, Andy Hornsby and Dave Manning
